I have been doing research on this for the past few hours on the internet but everywhere says the same thing and it's really hard to get a clear picture of what is going on here.
Although from what I have read it seems as though SM Entertainment is just crumbling with so many other bands losing members and all these other 'scandals'. I am not really a huge part of the KPop scene other than Girls' Generation so I didn't really know about all the other bands and issues until today.
From what I gather SM seemed to have dropped Jessica due to a conflict in interests? I mean their statement was hard to understand with the wording but basically Jessica had already expressed that she wanted to leave and that is why SM decided to separate her from Girls' Generation yet they would still manage her. Just separately.
On the other hand Jessica posted on her social media site weibo (which is like Twitter in Asia?) that she was dropped from GG for no reason and that it has always been her main priority. She was getting ready to go to the fan event in China as well...
I mean it's kind of hard to tell who's telling the truth.
I am going to try and express my thoughts on the situation here as best as I can and try not to take sides however my biased is leaning towards Jessica's story...just because of all the things going on with SM right now and other evidence.
My first thoughts were that SM dropped Jessica for no reason because I didn't think she was actually doing anything wrong? A lot of the things I saw on Tumblr were about how everyone was sad and that they want SNSD to stay strong in this time. Which I do too.
I mean I think this all comes down to the fact that Jessica does want to pursue a career in fashion and SM didn't think that Jessica could do that and be in the band and so cut her off.
Which sounds horrible.
I just think this is really bad timing especially when the other members of Girls' Generation are currently in China for a fan event and Jessica is not. I think this is really bad for the girls because they are being made to do something without one of the band members, and I don't think it was their choice to since Jessica was apparently supposed to be there only to find out she'd been dropped.
Plus I really don't think this was Jessica's choice. Especially because she, along with the other members signed a contract with SM to stay in the band for three more years after their seven year contract with SM ended. So if she was going to leave SM to focus on her fashion career wouldn't she have done that and not signed the contract?
I have read people saying that SM was doing what they thought was best because Jessica wanted to start a fashion line, study abroad and be in the band and that she couldn't cope with all these things at once and because she didn't want to chose between them SM chose for her. Which does make sense but at the same time I don't know why that stopped her from being with the rest of the band for at least this one last fan event.
Like the SM statement said she'll be there for one more album right? So technically, until the album is released she is still part of the band? Unless I am reading it wrong.
Still I think it was awful for SM to send the rest of the girls to the fan event without Jessica. And what made things even more heartbreaking is that when they were performing they didn't sing Jessica's part. I mean I don't know if this was true for all songs but during their song "The Boys" they didn't sing her part and it was awful. Not just for the fans but for the girls as well I mean I feel like they felt really lost because they had no one to fill her spot.
I mean they could have just cancelled the event or something...I know that's a hassle but they should have cancelled or let Jessica go anyway. I mean why stop her from going?
The crazy thing is that Jessica isn't the only one of the girls who is doing other things besides singing. The other members of the band have been acting on TV shows, films and even in musicals. They have been doing other things outside of Girls' Generation and so I don't know why Jessica can't do these things either.
I also think that even if Jessica was going to leave and expressed her thoughts on leaving she wouldn't have done it this way. I feel like if everyone knew she was going to leave at some point and supported her there would have been a much bigger farewell than this. I don't know how they do it in Korea but in America/Europe if someone leaves a band the whole band are supportive and celebrate the time that person was in the band. So I feel like if Jessica had told them she was leaving that would be the response she would have gotten and not this.
So yeah. I think I have said everything. From photos I can tell the other girls are really upset. I mean they spent seven years together and now is the time to drop one of them like flies? That's cold. I mean yes, Jessica and SM may have had a conflict of interests but I doubt Jessica would have chosen to leave at this point in time. It just looks bad.
Will we ever know the truth? I have no idea.
I just am kind of shocked and upset about the whole thing because I don't think it should have happened this way regardless of who actually made the call of Jessica leaving.
In the end I wish all the girls the best, but at the same time I know it won't be the same without Jessica in the band. I mean these girls have been through so much together and for something like this to happen is really awful...
I have no idea what's to come but I'm interested to know.....
If you guys have any thoughts I'd be interested to know. :)
